School History

Hope Lutheran School was established in 1964 as members of Hope Lutheran Church recognized their responsibility to offer citizens of the community a quality educational program where children could receive comprehensive, high quality Christian education. A half day kindergarten program was start first, then an additional grade was added each of the following three years — thereby expanding the school to grade three.

Continuing to focus on quality and desiring further expansion, two classrooms and a library were added in 1969. Grade four was added in 1972, and grade five was added the following year. With the start of the 1973 school year, a four-year-old pre-kindergarten program was created. In 1977, a before and after-school care program was started. The program expanded to include two and three-year-olds in 1980. Grade six was also added that same year.

An activity center, consisting of a gym, kitchen, youth room and three classrooms was dedicated in 1981.

Individual classes were established for the first and second grades in the fall of 1989.

In January of 1990, Hope Lutheran School was accredited by the Lutheran School Accreditation Commission. This accreditation is recognized by the Texas Education Agency and National School Accreditation for Lutheran Schools. Grade seven was added in the fall of 1995 and grade eight in the fall of 1996.

Presently, Hope Lutheran School offers the following programs: early childhood (age 2 - first grade), elementary school (grades 1 - 5), middle school (grades 6 - 8), before-school care, after-school care and summer child-care. All programs are available to members of Hope Lutheran Church and families in the community.

In addition to continuing to emphasize a Christian, quality, comprehensive, and age-appropriate academic education, Hope offers a fine arts program including band and handbells, and interscholastic competition in academics and athletics.
